Does splitting reduce page quality?
No rasterization is used for splitting. Existing PDF pages are copied into new files, although advanced document-wide features may not carry over.

Why are there page and file limits?
PDF rendering can use several bytes of memory per pixel. The limits keep large jobs from freezing or closing the browser tab.
